You can try and test your TVS on this one and if bad to remove them and get off your data. Check on some prior post for TVS you will find a lot of them lately and one from Mr TVS will give you complete details on this one.

Ann, there are no TVS on DC in on THIS board. If PCB is fried it can be replaced , but if drive with new pcb clicks furiously at startup or makes the typical Maxtor musical sound (like grinding) then preamp is fried for sure.
There is also the risk that new PCB , if preamp is really and badly gone, will be killed.

Does the drive spin up or attempt to spin up?

What are the symptoms?

Any visible damage?

Was any other board or device damaged?

Your photo is very poor, but the following PCB appears similar (but not identical):

Can you measure the resistance of the diode above the SMOOTH chip, and to the right of the MOTC test point?

This photo may help you identify some of the components:

The drive is not shown. There are no physical damages visible. I have replaced with a new hard disk. Now I want to get my data only.

The mother board was not working, power unit was not working - replaced them.

I don't understand "Can you measure the resistance of the diode above the SMOOTH chip, and to the right of the MOTC test point?" because I am not a hardware expert.

Then kindly send your drive to an expert If you can't fix it yourself.

PCB failure is a common defect with those Maxtors diamond max, there's no TVSs here you can fix it yourself.

Do you mean that the drive spins up but is not detected by BIOS?

Locate the SMOOTH chip. It is the third largest chip in this photo:
http://www.tux-tech.ca/images/logo/pcb.jpg

Above the chip is a round coil with "1R5" printed on it. To the right of it is a diode with a + above it on the PCB. The one in the photo appears to have a "BUX" marking, which means it is a 12V TVS diode. Yours may be marked with "KVP" which is the same thing, but from a different manufacturer.

If the drive spins up, then the above diode will be OK. OTOH, if the drive shuts down the PC's power supply, then this component will be a suspect.
