I am looking at a little HP subnotebook w/ a Seagate 500GB momentus drive. The drive was just replaced by an authorized service center. The customer brought it to me because he wanted me to recover the data from the original drive, and because the machine is freezing for several minutes and then resuming.

The unit has Vista on it, with no service packs. Getting the service packs installed is a problem due to the freezing.

I ran MHDD on the HDD and got about 17 warnings for reads that took > 150ms and <500ms.

Is that fairly typical for a large (500GB) 2.5" drive?

Here is the smart data from MHDD:

[/PRE]

Does that look okay?

I'm just wondering if I should start with a new drive (one I know is new, this one's date code
would indicate it was manufacturered Dec. 2009). Or if I should reformat and reload this one.

I personally would use a different drive. But that's primarily because of time restraints. If you have the time and or your client doesn't want to part with some extra $$$ for a new one in that case try to fix the delays with MHDD. Just read the FAQ hdd-faq-t5.html for instructions on how to deal with delays.

@Black
I understand the use, but I still do not understand how this can be profitable in the western hemisphere. Do you know how many drives I would have to SS, to pay the bills :mrgreen:

Thanks guys. I will just get a replacement. I haven't worked with many 2.5" drives of this capacity and just wasn't sure if I'm being unrealistic in my expectations.
