Hi, I have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda HDD.

The plastic bit of the data connector on the HDD has fallen off and a few pins so ... I have cut a spare SATA cable and noticed there are 8 wires. The SATA connector only has 7.

I want to check with you guys first.
It's a spare HDD, no data lost, it was my 2nd backup external HDD so this is purely a self challenge.

1. With the spare SATA cable, I noticed the 4th wire from the non-L shape side is not attached. Is this right? So the other 7 wires are connected straight (not crossover).

2. Any tips for solder ironing finely? So I don't stick 2 or 3 wires together.

3. There are 4 active wires and 3 ground wires. Is it ok to leave out the 3 ground wires?

Thanks.
