I have a Western Digital Drive, 80 gigs that will not spin the motor. I put it on my DeepSpar and fired it up, but I get no power on the 12 volt rail in the monitor. I pulled the board, and find two Diodes on the board, but nowhere near the power connector. I have read thru all of the TVS posts I can, and unsoldered both of them, but no spin. Can someone look at the board and give me their thoughts on what's up? It's not an ultra-important drive, but I'd like to figure this one out.

There is one Diode, D7, in the top center of the board. There is also another in the upper right, which has no designation. I would assume it's under the diode itself. I guessed that it would be the one for the 12v, as it's near the motor controller. Past that, I'm in the dark. D1 and D3 look like the spots where the TSV's would normally go, but no joy.

I'd say that you're correct about D1 and D3 being reserved for TVS diodes.

D7 is a Schottky diode that forms part of the -5V DC-DC converter for the preamp. Removing it was a bad idea. :-(

There are several voltages to check at U6 (multiple output linear regulator) and transistor Q4. If you can post these voltages, then someone may be able to advise you further. Hopefully it's not too late to replace the two diodes. Make sure they go in the right place, and in the right way.
