Very faint (electrical) noise coming off it, does not spin. checked the contacts on the board.

I would test that board on a compatible broken/clicking (that you do not care for) drive that does not have motor issue. Does it spin? WD drives rarely have motor issues unless, like above mentioned, dropped or slammed with no shame.

Your drive could be suffering from stiction or a seized spindle.

In a nutshell :

If the spindle is seized, bumping the drive in the (vane) attempt to make it spin can end with broken head and a good nice spickle/ring on the surface for sure that will kill new headset (= how to make recovery price skyrocket) or make things MUCH WORSE
If it is stiction, there are SAFE ways (for data) to fix it but this doesn't include slapping drives as it won't give you 2nd chances when thing go wrong, possibly endangering your wallet just in case data was from customer 8) .

Your data / your customer data , your choice.

Final note : WD is not Seagate and viceversa.
