Hi Guys,

I received a hdd for data recovery and it stuck in busy state.
It is a WD 1.0TB 10EADS-00P8B0 model.

It sound like the drive spins but i can hear the heads moving.

I tried to access it with WD Doctor without success, i wonder if anyone have some helpful advise.

Thanks,
Oded

Hi.

You need to open up the drive and confirm is spindle is spinning or not, because that's a bit vague.

Hi Guys, thanks for your replies.

I can't manage to find the exact donor with same model and pcb version.
The PCB version is 2061-701640-202 04PD3

Do you think any close PCB should do the job?

Thanks

I Sugest to run this drive i Kernel (sefe) mode and chack the ROM. If the drive will run in K MODE the PCD should be good.

You shouldn't be replacing the PCB before determining what the actual problem is. You say the drive spins up (you can hear it) so chances are that the PCB is probably OK. You should diagnose the drive properly before replacing any components. Give some more detail.

Hi Guys,

PCB 2060-701640-002,

I received the donor PCB and installed it on the drive as is without replacing the ROM chip.
When connected to WD HD Doctor the state moved to ready but as probably the rom settings were different it couldn't read the firmware or any other settings. Also i connected it to Data Compass and it moved to ready but when i scanned for partitions it found 0, but looks like it was accessible as far as i could see.

Then i installed the ROM from original PCB to the donor PCB, tested it and it came back to the problematic state of the original PCB, it stays BUSY all the time. Both on HD Doctor and Data Compass.
Logically it sounds like a corrupted ROM to me, what so you suggest to do?
I received a ROM file for this drive, can i burn this ROM file into the ROM chip and hope that it will work?

Any advise would be appreciated,

Thanks,
Oded

THere's something that it doesn't make much sense, you said you couldn't read even FW of the drive, but with Data Compass you scanned the drive? Are you really sure about it?

You can make an hotswap and try to read ROM from SA and compare with ROM from PCB.

On the original PCB, through Data Compass it kept on "busy" state and i couldn't do a thing.
When i installed the donor PCB on the drive(without ROM replacement) and connected to Data Compass, drive move to ready state, i opened the device explorer and open DC device, it couldn't find any partitions, so i scanned the drive for partitions-that is what i meant, and couldn't find any partition.
Then i moved the patient external ROM chip to the donor PCB, and it keeps on staying in Busy state, can't access it at all.

But do you have LBA access after PCB replacement?
