Hi, Hope u all would be fine and healthy.. Plz guide me for this scenario.

I got a WD Passport 500gb. On its cover its model is WDBAAA5000ABK-00 , when i took the hard drive out from its cover, on the hard drive the model is WD5000BMVV-11GNWSO. This drive is a laptop drive but it is directly converted to a USB port that is on its PCB.. there is no SATA port.

Problem:
The drive does not spin up, and produces a printer like sound, 5 times and then the sound goes off and drive is completely DEAD..

What can b the problem and how can i get my data from this drive?

Would be thankful to u guys...

Are you sure its yours?
I would recommend to send this drive to some reputable data recovery service.
Such mechanical problem (consider sounds) is too complicated for home DIY

I suspect sticktion problem. The heads instead of moving the the parking landed on the platters. That causes unknown amount of damage. Also the heads can die cause of it. To rectify the situation the heads need to be moved to the parking area. That can further damage the platters. Also in the event if the heads are dead new set of heads has to come in. All in all not a very DIYable operation. However there are reports of ppl DIYing the sticktion problem with "percussive maintenance". U can search it on this forum. BEWARE SINCE IT IS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS AND CHANCE OF SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY IS VERY LOW!!!

Warning this is NOT a DIY job. The other posters are correct you most likely will make a mistake and take a drive that could be recovered by a pro to one that can't be recovered by any means huge risks opening the drive without the proper training and knowledge which you have neither based on the very basic questions you are asking. I however will help you commit suicide with your data because its just been that kind of a day for me ! I also think you are going to do this no matter what anyone tells you I can just tell your that kind of person.

1. The drive spins down and the heads don't get to the park position therefore they stick to the platters
2. open up the drive in a special "clean room only environment" and see if the heads are not in the park zone
3. The park zone on some is off the platters into a special park ramp others its next to the spindle in the center

there is no such DIY in this type of hdd`s

remember, if you try to move it to parking area and you mess with the heads, then instead of paying few $$$ you will end up with heads problems which is more likely more hundreds $$$$

take it to a Pro. better
