Hello My storecenter will not mount it's data partitions anymore. Long story short. I can login to the device via web interface, but it says that all disks must be reinitialized in order to mount data volume. I know that 3 drives are spinning up and have data on them. I replaced the fourth with a new disk just to see if I could get it to mount. Same message in web interface. I tried ufs explorer and have a 1.3 terabyte disk image of the recovered data from the 3 good drives. Just cannot open that image up with anything. Tried UBUNTU mount commands and I get a folder with nothing in it. Need some data off this device and I'm out of things to try. Not sending it to data recovery cause data is not worth that much. Anyone had experience with these storecenters and possibly knows something to try without wiping data off?

No luck with Iomega tech. Get this I called and they said they cannot get me a replacement drive for the system. Isaid what are my options they said data recovery or find a disk on your on. Found one, bought it stuck in same boat with it. They were in a hurry to get rid of me. Told me they would email me if disk became available.

Usual Raid5 with offseted partition.
File System -XFS
Typical order, and default block-size .
Realy easy case , why you don't want to seek pro help?
It could be done even remote , for 10 min.

DR-Kiev is your man for this job.

He will be able to assemble the RAID remote for a reasonable fee :-)

He is the man. Took about an hour and a half remoted in and got to the data. Still copying it now to new drive. I came close on my own, but would have never figured out all of those settings. DR-Kiev is the master of the Winhex app. :D

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I've got a similar issue, same device, however Raid 0. I had one of the drives fail. The failed drive is functional.

DR-Kiev, would you be available to assist? I'm willing to pay

I HAVE OPENED A NEW TOPIC WITH THIS AS I THINK I DID MIS-POST. APOLOGIES... PLEASE SEE TOPIC IX2 - reset.

Hi there - apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area, however, I could only find this particular topic which has my issue in. I am new to this forum, so please let me know if I have miss-posted and I will try and correct.

I have an Iomega StorCentre Ix2-200 which worked until the other week.

The unit started to continually blink the red light on the front and I could not access the drive at all. Reading online, the only information I could find was to complete a full reset of the unit which I did: i.e. holding reset for 20 seconds, pulling the power out (continuing to hold reset for a further 20 seconds), powering back on (still holding reset for a further 15 seconds). I now regret this as I think this may have been a dramatic step and is creating a bigger problem....

When I completed this reset, the unit has restarted and I can access the dashboard through the IP address of the unit, however, the unit will not let me access the hard drive data. The dashboard states '2 new drives with existing data have been added' - when I go to the set up, the unit wants to erase the data on these drives. I really need the data as it contains work, family photos and music.

Surely I don't need to erase all of the data and start again?

Please help, if someone is able to help me sort this, I would be so grateful. I would be happy to pay if that is needed as I can't figure out why this has happened, or how to get the data back. As you can probably tell, I am not the most technical person and so simple instructions will be needed if you are able to help.

Sincere thanks in advance. I am in a bit of a panic as my wife does not know I may have cocked up and lost our family photos.... please help before I have to 'fess up.

Thank you

Dr Kiev,

I've Iomega StorCenter ix4-200d with firmware version 2.1.46.30093. The unit has 4 1TB drives setup as RAID5.

I've been having intermittent issues with drive 4 and IOmega device has been automatically reconstructing the protection. Recently drive 1 showed similar issue and now the whole data invisible.

After Login to the device I see this message:
4 new drives with existing data have been added to your Iomega StorCenter device.
The Iomega StorCenter device failed and some data loss may have occurred.

On the Disks page, I see the four disk and If I hover over one of the disk it display this pop help message:
Disk has been replaced with a disk containing data from another system.

On one of the page I got this message:
Disk Overwite Authorization:
A disk with existing data has been inserted.
Note that using this disk will permanently destroy all of its previous contents.
Check this box to authorize overwriting the disk.

I have not done the overwriting to avoid any data loss.

Please advice and help.

Advice is very depend on what do you need from the server. if you need to recover data , the only one correct option is to mount all drives directly to PC (via sata) , and give access to this system to a professional, who reconstruct array safe way and get access to your data for further saving files .

If you're looking to attempt DIY data recovery, then I would recommend to label the drives with their numbers, extract drives 1 & 4 and connect them to a PC directly. Then at least to check SMART (e.g. with HDDScan) to get a better understanding of what could have happened with the drives.

Another thing I'd suggest to stay on the safe is making full sector-by-sector images of drives 1 and 4 and working with them (you'll need enough empty space for that).
Then connect drives 2 and 3 to the same machine, where you have images (or drives 1 & 4), get a RAID recovery software and attempt to reassemble the RAID array there.

If "IOmega device has been automatically reconstructing the protection" with only one drive and nothing has been done after the second drive has failed, then data is likely to be recoverable.

Should you find yourself stuck at some point, I'll be glad to connect and assist recovering the data remotely.

Thanks Dr Kiev and Dmitri for reply.

Now my next questions are:
1. What should be the ideal specs of the PC to recover the data from RAID?
2. Is it better to take disk images and work with those rather than physical disks from RAID? What is the best way to take an image of the RAID-5 drives without causing any changes in the existing data on RAID-5 drives? (That is so multiple attempt can be made without loosing data)
a. CloneZilla or EZGig or any other tool you suggest?
3. If the RAID-5 physical drives needs to be attached to a PC, what is the ideal hardware config / setup?
a. Do I need some sort of PCI/e RAID card with 4 SATA ports and 4 SATA cable? (my dekstop doesn't have that many SATA ports. I bought a Vantec 4 Channel 6 Port SATA 6GB/s PCIe RAID host card. Haven't plugged that in yet. Also bought four 3 feet cables to lay those out on a table.)
b. Do I need additional Power Supply for the the 4 SATA drives from RAID-5? (I bought a EVGA 500W 80 PLUS power supply. I have not yet plugged that in)
c. Does that mean I've to have a desktop with six drives? One with Win 7 OS, four from RAID-5 and one big enough to restore to data to?
4. What softwares need to be installed on the PC?
5. Would it be better to have an disk image of each of the four RAID-5 drives (1 TB each). Then have a desktop with two 3 TB drives to host those 4 disk images and use that setup for recovery rather than the physical drives with the above listed RAID card and power supply?

Now my next questions are: ...

I kept the numbering:

1. Any reasonably modern PC should be enough.

2. It's safer. Especially for the drives, which went offline.
- 2.a. I suppose most people here use WinHex as a software solution.

3. Any reasonably modern PC with enough capabilities (ports, power) to connect drives/images and drives or storage for recovered data.
- 3.a. If there's not enough ports on your MB. For extension card it's good to check that it won't initialize the connected drives automatically (yours should be OK, I believe).
- 3.b. 500W should be enough for even more than 4+1 drives, unless you have some monster graphic card.
- 3.c. Depends on how many images will be taken and how they'll be stored (one large hard drive can contain few at once). I suppose there's not much to answer, your own judgement should be correct.

4. Windows and Teamviewer as a starter set.

5. If you have everything to image the drives labelled by NAS as "failed", that's good.
