I have a 320gb freeagent go external hard drive. PN- 9KW2AG-500
Suddenly the drive is not getting detected and no LED, just beep sound coming from the drive.
Tried diff USB , ports, cables, diff system, still no go.

I have downloaded the Seatool for widows and both the tests failed. I have all important data on the drive which is around 300 GB. Is there a way to get the data recovered? Or any other way to get the drive working? :(

The drive is still under warranty; however I want the data recovered before getting the drive replaced. Please help.

Regards,

Renji

Most probably mechanical problem (this drives likes fall down ).
Think twice , what do you need most, data or warranty.

Data recovery will cost much.

If you did not knock or drop the drive, then there's a good chance it's suffering from 'stiction', relatively common in 2.5" drives.

You will need to take it to a data recovery professional if the data is important. You might stumble upon, or be given, some 'DIY' advice but if your data is worth anything then that's not a good route to take.

Otherwise, have it replaced under warranty if the recovery cost is worth more than the data.

P.S. Each time you power on the drive you risk further damage as there is contact between components that aren't supposed to ever make contact, if it's stiction of course. If it was dropped then it's possible the motor spindle is jammed.

Hi, thank you so much for the reply.

I drive was not dropped, but stopped working. There is only beep sound coming. I think the drive is not getting power at all. I have tried a Y cable and same result.

Data is very important for me, so I will go to a data recovery professional.

Renji
