Hi,
I have tried reading through all the information within this site but have started confusing myself !!

My problem is that I have a Maxtor 500GB external hard drive connected to my PC. The computer was turned off via the switch rather than being turned off correctly and now the Maxtor is not accessible and shows as a RAW drive.

Is there anyway to turn it back to a workable drive without deleting everything on it ?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Is the data important as DIY has risks

Your options are:
1, do a sector by sector image of the drive & then try recovering the data from the image (this way if it goes wrong you have the original drive still & havent ruined your only chance)

2. try (after you've imaged the drive) testdisk to check that the mbr & boot sector is ok - could be a quick fix

3. get a dr pro to sort it - maybe remotely using teamviewer or some other remote access software if its a simple fix
