Hello everyone,

I am a newbie in HDD repair so please be indulgent :)

I have the following drive:

Seagate Barracuda LP 1TB
S/N: 9VX0E7WT
ST31000528AS
P/N: 9TN154-301
Firmware: CC32
PCB: 100536501 REV. A

This HDD was used in a Ximeta Netdisk external drive.

Whole issue started like this: as I was transfering a file to disk, left the room and got back like an hour later and file was still being transfered... I did try to cancel but it never worked so I've reboot my PC to disconnect the external drive as "clean" as possible...

Anyhow, since then it is not working anymore. I removed the HDD from the Netdisk enclosure and tried to get the data with a Universal IDE/SATA cable adapter but drive is still not being recognized by the PC. Never shows up. I see all other drives but not this one.

When I connect it, I hear it spinning, it makes 2-3 "clicks", still spins but nothing else happens... I would really like to restore the data from it...I have something like 900-950 Gb of data on this disk.... I know I should have done backups... worst thing is that I just bought myself a NAS and was about to transfer everything to the NAS to ensure such thing never happens... :x

I am really not sure if it is a logical failure or mechanical failure... any ideas how I could confirm that ??

I did remove the PCB but I do not see any damage to it. A picture is attached in case you can see something that I can't ...

Any help would be much appreciated. HELP Please !!!

Thanks a lot Spildit. Appreciate it.

Anyone else ?? Anyone lives close to Montreal and does data recovery or repair HDD??

I do not absolutely need the data inside, but of course it would nice to recover.

I do repair drives (refurb) but I seriously doubt you'll find someone in your area that does the same (for Data Recovery there are many valuable members of this forum we can suggest).

Data recovery in any case will not be cheap as a new drive, so you have little alternatives.

Terminal output can help in this case.
The fact that the drive does not spin down (if I understand it right) is somehow interesting and points to f/w damage. But i'd like to see terminal on this one.

Yes it is important to understand that OP needs to just post terminal output during drive startup. And they shouldn't mess with anything else on the terminal.

Even a single one-letter command can kill the drive for ever.

Hi maximx

If your data is not important, waste the drive, because a new HDD is cheaper than recovery services.

your case is a known problem on this model and you need expensive profesional tools and experience because if not: you'll brick your HDD.
