Hey all. I have been having a problem with my hard drive for the last month(s). I thought it was my PSU, but turns out it was my HD this whole time.
I now feel like a part of me is gone for being so stupid and not doing a recent backup.
----------
~Long-term Overview:

Basically my computer would run very slow and the task manager would show the cpu % as peaking @ 100% and sometimes dropping to 0-3%.
During these peaks and drops, the computer would lag/freeze for around 20 seconds, then continue as normal.
During these lags/freezes my mouse could still move on the screen. I figured, the mouse is still moving so it's not the HD :( .

I also had an issue of my system doing 1 click and then lagging/freezing. The mouse would still move on the screen though and everything else would return to
normal after around 20 seconds. I took that as a PSU problem because it's the same click I hear when I turn off my computer. Just figured I wasn't getting adequate
supply power somewhere. Turns out, that probably was the HD as well.

The HD got warm/slightly hot and I took that as normal behavior. It's had these temps for a while.
Until just the past week, it wouldn't boot at all.
BIOs will still read that there is a drive there, it just will not boot it. It just shows a black screen w/ nothing on it.
I never got any repetitive clicking noises w/ a crash. Except the occasional click stated above.

I tried using it on a new computer(w/ new psu) as a secondary drive w/ a IDE cable and I got a "Data error cyclic redundancy check" error.
It wouldn't even show the space it had.

It's a WD 7200rpm IDE HD. It is 250gb with around 120gb(I know this from memory) of used data including the OS.
The drive was purchased around 2005-2007.
----------
~Recent Overview:

Anyways I'm on a different computer(just bought a new laptop) now and I'm using a USB/IDE enclosure to access the HD.
Except when I try to access it, I still get a "Data error cyclic redundancy check" error.
It's not showing how much space it has, it just shows Drive E: and that's it.
When I click to access it's contents, it doesn't open, I just get the above data error.

The HD still gets very warm or mildly hot. Even when nothing is being accessed/written to it, which seems odd.
It also has a faint/slight double click when on. It's not loud at all and you have to put your ear about a foot away in order to hear it.
Sounds like, click,click...4-5 seconds...click,click...4-5 seconds...click,click...and it goes on.

Not sure if something is stuck, shorted or some other internal issue. I don't know much about HD's.

The drive is being read though when hooked up via USB/IDE enclosure. So hopefully that is a good sign.

~Main Question:

I was told to try easeus data recovery. I did and here were the results.
http://s9.postimg.org/tluerfwa7/easeus_SS.jpg

It was going real slow @ first.
Then it made a click, the searching paused for a while and it then went back to searching.
It then made another click, paused for a while and then stopped searching completely. Like the function of the HD just shut off and nothing could be accessed.
The elapsed time then sped up until it was done searching. During this time there were no increases in files/etc found as if it couldn't access the drive to search for anything.

The files it does return are stuff like "file01" and they're all named "file". I never see any of my actual recovered data.
Accessing them will return random encrypted stuff that I don't understand.

I take it since it's being this slow and having random clicks, that something is probably wrong with the drive itself?
Does anyone know a path I should take for this?
I only want to send to a technician as a last resort(as anyone would I assume).
I just hope I didn't lose my data. Nothing was formatted or deleted by me.

Hi Ambience,
If your data are valuable take it to a data recovery service, not just a "tech".

Drives do wear out and die. IDE is practically legacy equipment now and should probably be replaced. It is false economy trying to press this drive back into service.

PC slowdowns can range from software malfunction, poor setup, massively fragmented drive etc etc. but with no experience hacking about wqith this could make matters worse.

Your call.

If you are broke and the data aren't that valuable maybe have a local "tech" check it out, but looking around this forum you may see a trail of flame bait where "techs" seem to go thro the whole range of "how to kill a customers drive in 5 easy steps" then come here as you have done, asking for help.

If you have some sort of budget for this, you could look up 300ddr in CA.
Probably the best combination of quality service at a price non-business customers can also afford.

As the name implies its largely a fixed rate 300 bucks and the guys there have fabulous rep here in forum.

Thanks for the reply.

I meant tech as in a data recovery place. I wouldn't want to send it to my average computer shop :(
Hope it's something simple. With my luck, probably not.

there very bad errors on the sectors
if data is on those sectors data will be corrupted.
