hello all ..

i have those two units , that ''supposed'' to hold backups .


Seagate Black armor NAS110 ..

the data is not needed at all ....

i just want to reuse the two units ..

tried to use the reset hole , but the same issue presists ..

the NAS unit , doesn't ping at all , and offcourse not browsable ..
not detected at all using black armor discovery software ..


any ideas would be appreciated ..

Your information provided is not sufficient to really help.

some questions you might like to answer:

- Does it power up?
- Does it have/had any actual specific problems that you know of, meaning is it supposed to be working ok?
- You not being able to ping it can be as simple as a broken cable, an incorrect IP address, not knowing the IP, another network issue, etc etc etc..
- did you do the reset properly?


- any strange noises?
- anything at all that may us help, remember we have never seen it, don't know the history, and cant "play" with it.

yes , acts like a healthy one .. the lids flashes the way they do in a healthy unit ..

not at all .. just stopped responding ( the two units acted the same way)

changed cables , even routers , with DHCP disabled/enabled , a network scanner doesn't detect it at all , and the black armor discoverysoftware will detect the IP automatically on healthy units ..

4- did you do the reset properly?
yes , untill the two blue lids turned red , and back to blue ( flashed ~30 secs till the unit was initializing)

5-- any strange noises?
not at all .. even when u want to shutdown the unit ( hold the power button for several secs) the lid flashes several secs while the unite in the shutdown process ( just like the healthy ones do)



when connected to a router the lan lid in the router in on , so the network part of the unit should be working fine , i think

i have the idea of disassemblig the unit , and examin the internal HDD on ddi to see if it's problematic , but the thing is that i highly suspect the network part of the unit , as no pring at all ..

the RESET will ONLY reset the Admin login to default

My Advice:

1- remove the hdd from inside and fix it to your computer
2- delete all partitions from it via windows
3- connect hdd back to NAS , the device will format it again and do the rest for you ( this will take maybe 5min)

then you can login via web access

I believe Seagate have a software utility (available from their site) that will reset the Black Armour NAS's to Factory Default, erasing ALL user data and admin passwords in the process.... I have used this previously, and it takes some time to complete.... but it works a treat.

BlackArmor uses Internal Memory to store its FW which also FORMATS the NAS and prepares all without any SW
just plug your new drives and wait for few minutes

I have here the Models 400 (4 drives) , 220 ( 2 drives ) and even the single drive 110 is the same

other types such as Buffalo, WD uses TFTP and you have to enter Emergency-Repair Mode & Upload FW Manually in order to repair bricked drives
WD NAS is so stupid where you have to do it manually in Linux

So you got them up and running now?

This morning, two amber lights showed on my Black Armor NAS 110.
Two resets and unplugging power and LAN cables did not change anything , except only one amber light shows (the drive light). The other LED is not lit.
When I start Black Armor Discovery, it says it can't find any server.
I tried "repairing" Black Armor Discovery, but that didn't change anything.

The drive still works as a drive: I can manually access the non-password protected directories and copy files to other drives via Windows Explorer. It seems to be a problem with the system directory in which my system backups are stored. Black Armor Backup still works; I successfully created another System Backup which I stored on the Public (shared) directory ("Z" drive).

Went into Device Manager, where the NAS has a yellow alert triangle. Tells me no drivers are installed. Can't find any on an "update driver" search.

Tried typing the fixed I.P. address into my browser, but it just sent me to Google search rather than actually pinging the NAS.


What do I try next?
