New to the forums. I have a LaCie d2 Big Disk Extreme model, it is 1tb. This model has 2 x 500gig ide hard drives installed. This model has 2 x firewire and 1 usb ports. I was using this unit with Windows but I need to use it with a Mac. I would like to perform a factory reset on this unit, if possible. I know I could just connect it to a Mac and format the drives.

How do I factory reset this unit? By factory reset, I mean I want to reset it as if it is brand new.

thanks.

hi,if you mean reset all settings to factory default this can help you:

Quote:
D2 Network and Big Disk Network reset procedure.

Summary:

D2 Network and Big Disk Network reset procedure.

Please follow the procedure below to reset your d2 network or Big Disk network. No data will be lost during this procedure, though it may be made temporarily unavailable

Begin by switching OFF the product.
NOTE: Once the unit is OFF, the power switch must be in the OFF position.

Press the button on the front of the unit, and KEEP IT PRESSED. Move the power switch to the ON position with your other hand.
NOTE: The light on the front will begin blinking between blue and red.

Once the light on the front is STABLE RED, RELEASE the button.
NOTE:The light will begin blinking blue when the button is released.

When the light stops blinking and is STABLE BLUE, PRESS the button for the last time. The product will reboot automatically, and be reset to factory settings when it is on again.

The Administrator password is reset to "admin"
Shares are renamed with the beginning "Recovered_". For example, a share named "Music" will now be named "Recovered_Music"
All other configurations are lost and are set back to factory default settings.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, this model is not a network model. This model is only the triple interface type there isn't any RJ45 port on the back. Also, this model doesn't have any ON/OFF switch as mentioned in the directions. On the front, there is only a power button that stays a solid blue when it is ON.

I will look at the model again but pressing and holding the power button on the front doesn't appear to reset it.

Any other idea's?

Hi, did you download the manual?
I would be surprised if a non-networking model could be reset just by holding the power button.

If it is just USB and firewire, there isn't really anything to "reset" maybe wipe the partitions, repartition and do full format would be the closest you can get.
