Hi I have a Western Digital WD3000 300GB IDE Hard Drive that failed,

Apparently I have the White Unicorn of WD PCB's because Ive been looking for Months and I cannot find them anywhere.

April 2005
PCB# 2060-701314-000 REV A on board
PCB# 2061-701314-AA01 XW on Sticker

All I can find is 2060-701314-002 REV A or Maybe a 2060-701314-001 REV A every now and then.

Can I swap U12 onto a 2060-701314-002/001 REV A? are the board close enough? I can't find an exact match for whatever reason due to it popularity/rarity/age

I swapped boards and my dead hard drive did spin up so I know it's PCB related. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

If the donor PCB has same MCU and motor chip, then it's definitely worth a shot!

I swapped the Donor PCB onto the the Original HDD and it did spin up. the original PCB did not power up and spin. is there somewhere I can get an external Rom Programmer? that would be optimal instead of trying to sauder the U12 off and on another board.

I actually just picked up a EZP2010 USB programmer off eBay so I'm hoping it will allow me to copy and re-write the U12 rom chips without saudering them off the boards. it looked like it came with 4 adapter boards that allowed you to copy while attached to the PCB.

I would practice reading, erasing and writing on your donor PCB. Read the chip several times and compare the copies to make sure that they are identical. After erasing and rewriting the donor, I would then confirm that your patient drive still spins up with the donor PCB.
