Heya all. Got this 3Tb ST3000DM001-1CH166 grenada fw cc46 hard drive that spun up normal , heads sound perfect, comes ready but raises busy on ID attempt ( It released busy if you give the drive enough time , in my case about 5-6 minutes ) . All sorts of different shit in the terminal , from normal spin up stuff like Boot 0x40M Spin Up Trans.
Spin Up SpinOK (P) SATA Reset

Sometimes drive would ID with gibberish as a model capacity FW and the like , sometimes it would ID proper. CTR Z would not bring terminal unless you spam it during a startup. ( akin to read / write channel noise i imagine , get the command before drive starts pleasuring itself =) ) When drive ID with gibberish i would exit utility and reenter without re powering the drive. several tries and it gave proper passport.
This case reminded me of .10s with pending issue , so i tried treating it as such. The edit HD ID function did not work most time , claiming response timeout , but if you try at the right time ( immediately after the drive finally gave proper ID in my case ) it will work. 1st time edit HDD ID got through i enabled add terminal commands and disable reallocation and all that little housekeeping stuff. That did not work. Drive behaved same. On a whim next time i got through i put a check mark on disable IDLE activities ( or smth along those lines ). Drive re powered and is imaging fine now. ( about 15% in ) terminal from time to time reports UNCs. After the image is complete ill re enable the IDLE to make sure that was the saving move.
PS standard USB PC3K terminal adapter did not work ( press CTR Z it types a 9 ) . Had to use the terminal adapter 2.
This worked in my case and since many different things go bump in seagate drives - no guarantee it will work with urs. Gl
