This drive was in a retail Seagate 12V external USB chassis. After a power loss it quit working.

Drive spins up and makes normal startup sounds. During system POST there is a long delay before it gives up.
Seagate Tools doesn't see anything either.

After some digging around online I came across this site and learned that there is a serial terminal interface and that some folks have has success in reviving their unresponsive drives. I purchased a cable and connected this drive to putty.

Initially this is all that I could see via Terminal:
Code:
Boot 0x40M
Spin Up
Trans.

Spin Up
SpinOK
(P) SATA Reset

No response to any commands.

After several power cycles and reattempts I finally got F3:
Code:
Boot 0x40M
Spin Up
Trans.

Spin Up
SpinOK
ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>
(P) SATA Reset

F3 T>/2

F3 2>Z

Spin Down Complete
Elapsed Time 15.564 secs
F3 2>/1

F3 1>/T

F3 T>

I haven't issued any commands on this drive beyond what is posted above. I've experimented on other Seagate drives that are in my junk pile trying to learn more about accessing drives via terminal. I don't want to screw this up and I'm hoping for some guidance.

Can any of you gurus help?
