Hey Gents,

Trying to do my own research as much as I can, but wasn't able to get a clear cut answer. I'm dealing with a salesmen of our company that was backing up pictures to an external HDD without any other sort of online-based backup.
This model of external 2.5" Hard Drive is a USB 3.0 only PCB (my first thought was to plug it into SATA)
Here is the board: 2060-771801-002 Rev A
I found the board here: https://www.hdd-parts.com/15120649.html

The symptoms are as follows:
- When plugging into any computer or USB port, I instantly get a windows device connection sound
- The device is powered up and spinning with no audible issues.
- Nothing shows up in device manager / Disk manager
- Wait for around 15-20 seconds
- Get a single 'click' sound
- Disconnect noise from windows
- Connect noise from windows
- Get the following error: unknown usb device (configuration descriptor request failed)

My initial thought process is that it's either a PCB (unlikely imo) or something interally with the heads not initializing.
I do not have a clean room or anything of the like, and i'm not sure how "critical" the data is to this person. But before I have him send it off for data recovery just looking into what you guys think the problem is.
Let me know if you have a more positive idea of what the issue probably is and I can relay that info along.
Thank you,
Jason

The drive probably cannot load all the firmware modules it needs to start up and reverts to a so called kernel mode. There is not much you can do without special tools and knowledge, so i would recommend consulting an expert if the data is important.
