Hi,

I have here one 30GB Toshiba 2.5" HDD with ATA password set (security level set to high, master password not changed = factory default?). Is there something like "default" master password for Toshiba drives? I mean common password for all Toshiba drives for example. I've seen something like "WDCWDCWDC.." for Western Digital drives.

If anyone can help it would be just great :)

Thanks for reply, seems like there is LOTS of useful informations. Unfortunately I tried that already (32 spaces as the password) but with no luck. I tried several password combinations (serial numbers, spaces, etc.)

This drive is in one special device (not in PC) and in this device it works without entering any password (that means some routine in BIOS unlocks the drive before boot). Seems to work similar like Xbox.

But I doubt they have for every single piece different master password (especially when not changed from factory default). In worst case I can imagine there is an option to "catch" this password sent over ATA interface to drive before boot (must be one of first commands), but I do not have required hw for that.

So my question - is there any "alternative" default password known (as oposed to 32 spaces) :?: Maybe in this newer Toshiba drives this has changed. Anybody knows? Or anyone with experience in monitoring ATA interface communication? 8)
