Hi all!!
Please help me! It's very very important and urgent!!!
My HDD (2.5'', ATA, Samsung MP0804H112004) is not detected any more. Neither BIOS can detect it, nor OS (I tried WinXP and Linux. Rescue CDs and etc. I also tried). I tried it as primary and slave, with different PCs, different jumpers possitions, etc, etc... Nothing help. It seems (one can hear it) that HDD tries to start but can't. It remembers me problems with servers which are working in 24h/7d mode for years and one day couldn't come up after shut down. One must bring them up and they would work but problem is to bring them up. The same as with my poor HDD.
I tried MHDD it can't help because it can't correctly read HDD data (reads just some trash) and says that "this device does not suppirt LBA mode/ MHDD will not work with this device". But my HDD supports LBA mode indeed..it seems it cant just spin up. That's the problem...
I would be glad to hear any ideas. It seems I tried everything.
Now the story of the crash. This morning I started my notebook as usual and it worted fine. I shut it down and make some other stuff. About 2 p.m. I tried to boot my notebook but HDD was not detected. Pretty short story.
P.S. My HDD ist about 1 year and 2 months old. HDD itself does not matter for me but I MUST rescue the data on it!!!!
P.P.S. I need any options except ordering the same HDD and changing boards\platters (I'm going to do it if no other option exists)

Dont Panic

If you could hear any sound (TIC-Tic) try to get another hdd same model and firmware try to replace PCB. Else go to Data recovery company to Get your Data.

Hello,

with theese models I experienced some PCB related problem that leaves the heads on the surface uppon power down (unparked), and this way the HDD cannot spin up with another PCB either. But for the data restoration it is neccessary to open the HDA which is not advisable to do on your own if U really need the data.

regards,
pepe

Thanks for your answers guys.

Now I have the same HDD with the same PCB (Magma rev.03 BF41-00075A), but unfortunatelly PCBs have a different firmware versions. Old one has PD rev.3 and a new one has SD rev.3. An old HDD with a new PCB spins up but it's not detected neither in BIOS not in any OS. What could I do now? My precious data is really really important for me! I'm waiting for your advices.

P.S. If it's really problem with unparked head could someone recommend any software which could park the heads? I remember I used something for manual heads parking...but it was an eturnity ago.

Hello,

U will have to move the ROM chip from the bad drive's PCB to the good one (to ensure FW compatibility).
In case the heads are unparked U cannot do anything without opening the HDA, this case requires an expert, so if the PCB replacemend won't give U the solution, U'd better turn to a DR company, otherwise - as I mentioned above - U may destroy the data completely by opening the drive yourself.
Anyway if U really need the data, U shouldn't experience by this pcb thing either, that may also reduce the chance of a successful recovery by such company if U damage the original ROM.
So please think about theese things, if U are not experienced in electronics and drive technology, it is a much better choice to find somebody who is :)

regards,
pepe

Tnx,
but I think the ROM from an old HDD isn't ok any more. I can't read any info from it (using MHDD or simular programs) - I tried several times and got just garbage :( So switching ROMs wouldn't be a solution in this case.
Any other ideas?
DRS would not be a solution for me because they want to much. I can't pay about 1000 euro for data recovery :( Just too expensive but I really need my data and time is critical.

Hi,

As far as I see U have no idea what the ROM is on the PCB, this way it is very hard to explain anything.
U should either follow my advice and find somebody who has some idea of these things, or U may completely say good bye to the bits on that disk.
Sorry, I cannot say anything other than this :(

regards,
pepe

A new one

An old one

I hope it's possible to read numbers.

What could I do now? I'm just stressed..I was nearly sure that my old HDD would work with a new PCB..but it's not. And PCBs are the same...Why? I don't understand.

Tnx, but I needn't any explanations about ROM. Maybe I really don't know enough because I don't understand why an old HDD with a new PCB is not detected. I'd appretiate if you explain it to me.

It would directly change ROMs if I would sure it works....but I'm not and this's the problem..so I'm just about to give up :(((((((((
