Hello

I have a LaCie D2 external drive with multiple interfaces (FW400/FW800/USB2). It produced unsuportable noise and I decided to replace it with a more quiete one. Original disk was WD 160GB and a new one Seagate 250GB. After replacement only Firewire interfaces works.
The question is: Does LaCie use its own firmware in OEM disks? Is it safe to run LaCie update utility with a new disk?
The target is to get USB2 working.

I think there must be a cable loose in the lacie.
All interfaces should work, no matter what brand the harddisk is.

Thanks for your advise. I thought myself about it. I will check it again. Nevetheless I am still wondering what firmware LaCie´s update utility actually updates, the firmwareif its interface or the disk firmware? Or may be both? Any opnions?

Very strange. I have such a case here. I'll check the usb connection (now i use FW800).

Thanks for your comment.
I used to work myself in the computer industry and know by experience that many storage companies using OEM disks modify HD firmware to fit special functionality of their products. But of cause I am talking about enterprise solutions.

You Can Id The Hard Disc [ If It Was working ] To Find This Out .But The Situation At Your Hand Is Totally Different
