Hi Guys,

I had a big problem with my laptop HDD, my laptop cannot boot up and keep showing "PC came up with ''WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM' has been corrupted or deleted, load recovery disc, type R for repair'. "

I try following the instruction to do a WINXP CD recovery, but after hitting R the C drive cannot be access. I try to check the partition it is still there, but the drive became not formatted. So that is the main reason why I cannot access the drive, I am sure it is working well for a long time, the problem could be not shutting the laptop down properly. I need my data in my C drive as it have all my email and other working files.

Anyone know how I can my C drive working again and solve the unformatted or corrupted C: problem. Now I have no way to access the HDD, not even with a external USB casing, the only way to acess it is to plug back into the laptop and boot up with WINXP CD. But C: just show as not formatted. To reuse the drive I can reformat and reinstall WINDOW, but what I want is the data in it. If I reformat I will lost all data, so I can do nothing but to await some kind soul to advice and help me.

Thanks a Million in advance. hope someone can help me ASAP.

Regards

Woodwind

I think you will need to adjust your thinking a bit. Instead of getting the C drive 'Working again', by far the safest thing to do is to leave the drive alone, and try to copy what you can to another drive. At a minimum, you will need a second drive, and an operating system (Either another computer with Windows installed, or a 'Live CD' like Knoppix, BartPE, or UBCD4Win). If you can see your old drive in Windows or Knoppix, copy everything you can to another drive. If you can't see any files, your best bet is to make an image of the drive (A full image, not just a standard Ghost image), and use specialized software to get your files. Also, do all of this as fast as possible, and keep the drive unpowered as much as possible. When drives start to fail, they rarely get better, and sometimes get worse FAST. If you can at least make a good image, you can take your time recovering the files.

If you can't make an image, if all this is a bit advanced, or if the data is very important to you, I'd strongly recommend letting a professional work on it.

HI Guys,

I managed to get hold of the laptop HDD to IDE Adapter, after attached the 2.5" to a PC and boot up. The system in the PC did a Chkdsk and some touchup, now I am able to access the Laptop HDD.

But now I have another problem as I cannot access the My User A/C Document folder as I had a password for my privacy. And the PC was not able to gain access into this folder. Anyone have some ideas on how I can by pass this and gain accessinto this document folder?

Thank you.

Regards,

Woodwind

Getdataback will recover your data and ignore the protection.

Or if you have XP Pro, you can change the ownership of the folder.

Hi All,

Just manage to put back the hdd into the laptop and try to use the guide here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;307545) to retrieve the data.

Now the laptop can be boot up to XP Pro, after following the guide I can access the User folder. But the access was still denied for folder within that User folder, as I can only boot up as Administrator and no longer the User I used to use. Now I try to get into the "My Document" , "Local Setting" folder and all folder within this User folder is denied. I did try to gain access using the same method I got access into the User folder, but things there are different so I cannot get into it.

Any advice and solution on how I can get into this folder and more floder within the folder to retrieve this data in those folder. Hope you can help.

Thank you,

Regards,

Woodwind
