When I plug in my hard drive it recognises alright but when I start a large file transfer...half way through the drive just suddenly cuts out and disappears from My Computer ...saying cannot file path la di de da..... it also happens when i try to safely remove hardware it tells me the generic volume cannot be removed......but then the drive just disappears....it also happens when I try and delete something off it...it just tells me half way through cannot find file path and guess what...the drive has disappeared from My Computer....

Slightly off topic but has anyone got any suggestions???

Sounds like a USB and/or power issue. Does your drive have an external power adapter? Have you tried a better/shorter USB cable?
