Need Some Help About Unlocking

October 1st, 2008, 5:30

Hi guys,

Another newbie again :| .

I have an ST980825A 2.5" 80 GB Seagate harddrive that was password protected at my old Asus S52N. I sold that laptop but with a bigger and better drive and now I am stuck with this tiny little thing, and as you read, I can not access to it either via a USB enclosure or on my old HP Omnibook which does not support the harddrive password mechanism at its BIOS.

I downloaded the MHDD and ran it from the floppy on my HP (the only laptop I have that has ATA), even tough I remember the password, and do an unlock at user mode by entering the right password, it fails to unlock it. I am confused a little bit about why this happens, and how in the world I will be able to reach the new owner of my old laptop.

Can anybody help me about that ? I tried the master password as Seagate and 25 spaces after it but nope, helpless. I also tried the password I know of as the master password and spaces after it but nope that did not help either.

I am expecting a guru to give me hand on that ...

tnx.

Once the drive was removed from the laptop it freezes the password. The drive knows it is not in the original laptop, thus it will not allow you to remove the password even if you have a utility to remove it. Most professional data recovery companies may have hardware to remove it from the drive.

Yes, we do have tools to remove p/w from drives.

In UK if that's any help?

I do appreciate guys, but I am in turkey, and shipping the drive to you is not possible.

thanks anyway, I could find the number of the new owner of the laptop, and he accepted me to do the operation on the machine.

Default master password is "Seagate" + 25 spaces.
Use UNLOCK and DISPWD commands in MHDD.
