Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi Guys,
surry, but I'm not a technical specialist like most of you, but I'm looking serously for help.
The situation:
Last Monday, my PC "stopped" working, because of HDD failure.
A closer look to the piece, its a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8, 250 GB, the PC board had a burning mark on one of the chips. A technican told me later, it's the bios.
I left it there, they tried to replace the bios - without any result.
A second company phoned me this mornig with the same result ("Please come and pick-up your rubbish") .
Now this piece is lying here in front of me and I'm looking for any kind of help, which I can submit to the local technicans.
The data on is only private stuff, photos and old VAT-Tax files, a music database etc.
But I would like to geteven this back - if possible.
Any help is welcome.
kind regards from Windhoek/Namibia

I just received two quotations from similar companies - uff, both ask plusminus 5000 Rand.
So I just wrote an email to imperative, let's see.
Thanks for the moment

'bios'... Definition of the week. Sure it is the ROM?

I'm sure, he said BIOS, the technical guy explained me something with eprom, where the starting sectors of the partitions are "burned" in. And, he said, that's why the drive looks dead.
Sorry, but I'm not a technic freak, but I'm still looking for a solution to manage this problem locally.
