MHV2060AH - HDA transplant but strange head mapping?

October 30th, 2008, 4:57

Hi All,

Looking for either of MHV20120AH or MHV20100AH for HDA transplant.

Or any suggestions. I have a MVH2060AH with dual platters. No head on bottom of bottom platter, 1 head on top of bottom platter, 1 head on bottom of top platter and 1 head on top of top platter.

If that makes any sense.

I was looking for a MHV with 4 heads to improve chances of compatibility. Or is there any way of telling the head mapping of MHV2060 so I can be sure i get a donor with the same HDA configuration? All the ones i have opened so far from our stock have different head mapping.

Thanks for your help everyone.

You have to start with a learning on how to determine head map without openning a drive.

An MHV2080AH (or BH for that matter) would suffice.

I think what beardyone wants to know is how to determine head mapping based on information tha can be found on the label, rather than purchasing donor parts with different head map making them incompatible and useless.

Not as far as I know, I've two identical drives as far as I could tell, no clue as to the head map inside.

I usually buy a known 4 head drive to fix up a 3 head model anyway.
