ST31000340AS head stack replacement

November 4th, 2008, 6:14

Dears,

I am trying to replace head stack from Seagate ST31000340AS and I have a problem. I have noticed that between platters is "positioning system" (metal construction between platters). I don't know how to remove it. I cannot remove head stack before remove these metal elements. Help me please.

Best Regards,
Rafael

Try posting a picture here, I think more people may identify what 'positioning system' you mean.

Spacers.

why would spacers prevent you removing Head Assembly? I think there may be some confusion

According to suggestion I have attached the picture of "positioning system". I hope it will help.

this positioning system you are worried about does not affect removal of head assembly. the only component that needs to be removed is the plastic stopper positioned behind the head stack. Heads can be removed from paltter without any problems. This is only an issue if you are attempting Platter Swap.

Ive performed successful head replacements on these disks, both times this spacer did not interfere. Maybe you should send it to me for recovery 8)
