WD5000KS some info needed

November 10th, 2008, 1:33

Hi forum

i have recieved a drive for recovery Wd5000KS which has been into repair at a pc shop so i am not too sure of the exact initial problems with the drive.
Needless to say the board was removed, components removed and replaced visible from shocking soldering work. the drive does not spin at all and looking at the board i have decided to start with a replacement board.

I assume i am going to have to replace the rom chip from the old board to the donor board to begin with, i have checked internally and the motor is spinning freely and there appera to be no other kind of visible damage.

Can anyone provide some info on the issues i may experience with a board swap in these drives and other thing to look out for.

Thank you for any help

:)

Dont be chicken out in trying, trial and error will lead you to a good learning curve.

Issues you may experience with these drives? They are terrible. Do you know what the original problem was?
