Hello everyone,
My drive suddenly ceased to function a few days ago, it was working very well since then.
code : YAR41BW0
sn : Y326N97E
made in singapore
The symptoms are:
-the drive is spinning
-a clanking noise every 5 seconds
-not recognized by BIOS in Master
-recognized by BIOS as CALYPSO in safe mode
I tried MHDD but it can't communicate with the drive, it says "LBA mode not supported"
the EID, ID functions do not work
After reading a bit of this forum I think the heads are faulty, am I right?
I don't care if I lose the data by opening the top lid
What drive should I buy to do a head exchange, the same exactly or any of the CALYPSO family?
Thanks for any help

Get serial number as close as possible with focus on the first two characters especially. Get as close as possible on the date and match the country of origin. There's another code on the case that you'd be interested in but I don't know your resources for finding this info prior to purchasing.
I wouldn't be surprised if you open this drive and find a black filter. If you're gonna open it then I'd open it before you buy the parts. That way if the media is severely damaged you don't waste your time or money. Good luck!

And even if the filter is white... Your probabilities of success are near zero.

Have you tried to get it started with a loader?

What is the model number? I have had many of these fail in this way, all have the same head type (42) in model number. If your model is 6Y120P042**** then I would expect the platters to have been damaged, and filter black.

Well I don't have the hardware tools to change firmware, loader and such...
so I realize I will waste my time if I scratch something while changing the heads
I will just buy a new one.
FYI I opened it and it looked fine (white filter, no scratches)
model : 6Y120P0032211
thanks anyway

Do you need the data?

I can fix it, hoping contamination due to opening is not too much...
