Maxtor head compatibility

November 13th, 2008, 16:03

What are the specific things I need to be looking at for Maxtor head compatibility? I understand that the first two digits in the long part number (such as 6y120l0132601) indicate the type of head stack, and that one or more of the letters in the four-letter code do as well (such as N, M, C, D). I've also read about matching the first three characters in the serial number, but does this apply for headstacks, or no?

You have to look for a letters and head map of the drive.
