Problem with a Fujitsu MPG3204AH

October 12th, 2005, 11:50

I have a problem with a Fujitsu MPG3204AH - EF hdd (FWC3C9), I know its a s**** series. The hdd is recognized in the BIOS but I did not access to the data. By the analysis with mhdd tool I can see this pattern: XXX##XXXX##XXXX## ... ( Error at Block 0, 255, 510, 1472, 1785 .... ) Have someone a tip for me - it's a problem with the electronic or the Heads. There is a solution for this problem. Thank you for any help.

It is probably a firmware issue.

I think salvationdata may be able help.

Don't think this is firmware issue, 95% of fujitsu drive with firmware issue don't detected by BIOS  other 5% usually don't detected by any programm and need skilled repairman to diagnose...

2dvd:

1. As i guess you see repeating pattern of good and bad block, this usually mean what some head dead( to check this, try start test from different offset from start like LBA 0, 1000000, 3000000, 10000000 etc ). Also this maybe scratch - in this case you start see normal test result from some offset

2. Almost all fujitsu MPG drive have problem with electronic PCB, the only difference - how big problem is. Therefore use "known good" PCB - good idea anyway

I've testing the hdd with different LBA offsets address, but the result is always the same ( ##XXXX##XXXX.... )
I have already try to change pcb however without success, the pcb's look optical the same but the pcb is from a MPGxxxxAT Modell. Perhaps can I flash the MPGxxxxAT Modell into a MPGxxxxAH Modell? Gives it a Fujitsu hdd Flashtool with the possibility for Firmware selection ? I only have found a Fujitsu Flash Tool for MPGxxxxAT include with a Firmware Upgrade.

# - is good(grey square), and x is UNC ? Well 99% one of the head is dead

Change pcb need knowledge  or you can get two dead drive instead of one.

1. Fujitsu MPG drive have several different PCB, some of them not compatible

2. You try install board from 5400RPM to 7200RPM drive, BTW they optical almost the same, but not fully

3. Even if you have 100% same board, this board can have different firmware.

I don't know about free software to flash firmware (because use written myself) , as i think one of head is dead, so if data need - use datarecovery service...

@vi could you post your software? :)
