Seagate drive can't be detected by bios anymore

I suffer from the problem that the Seagate ST31000340AS drive can't be detected by the bios anymore. The drive got the infamous SD15 firmware and was made in Thailand.

I wonder if anyone got experience in fixing such disks to be able to recover the data? The drive is still spinning.

I read about the 0GB problem with Seagate drives but I have no idea if it is related to my problem.

Any information or ideas are greatly appreciated.

If it's Sa there are commercial hw complexes for this. Buy and fix your drive - it's not 100 neither 200$... Otherwise go to a dr expert.

what does Sa mean? Could you point me into the direction of a commercial product which can do this? What about the PC-3000?

And I just found out that it is possible to replace the logic board of a hard drive.

Did anyone try to do this with a harddrive which got the "Seagate - not recognized by Bios" problem?

SA is a firmware zone on the platters. Firmware is corrupted.
PCB swap won't help.

marvin, ignore some of the hostility on this board. Some people here don't actually care to help and think they hold some arcane knowledge in their cranium.

This does seem to be a very common issue as there are several posts on this board. I would assume that the new software tools release might be able to correct. So in time there might be some less expensive methods of correcting it. So far the cheapest (and reliable) method I know is to send it to www.payam.com.au. It will run you about $450 US. If you don't really need the info on the drive just send it back to Seagate and they'll replace it under warranty.

Unluckily the HW (not only 'software' tools many people WISH to 'emule' or even buy) need to be driven by human beings with a working brain and some arcane knowledge 'in their cranium' so there is not a one click solution neither the manufacturer can help you work what you don't know.
P.S. 75% times there are ALSO head or mechanical issues or everything falls into the "data reconstruction" category, in that case the 450$ does not apply... someone else had to pay 1000$ and up.
One thing is right : if the data is not important, RMA the drive and live without the data.
