Hitachi Travelstar not known by my bios (Dell Latitude C640)

Hello All,
I am havin a big problem. My laptop (with an important data for website) was having problems recently. It was recently restartin a lot, something that got to do with overheating. The fan is not working fine and everything. Yesterday, I decided to take out my data using windows commander bootable cd but it was stuck and i turned it off hardly. When I restarted it, it was not recognized by Bios at all. Is there a way i can access the hard drive and get my data? Details about it are:

IT IS 40GB.

Yes there is a way to access the data. It's really easy. All you need to do is learn all about the internal workings of hard disks. Then you should focus your attention to that model of hard disk. You should then spend the next few years practicing fault diagnostics and repair. I suggest you also start saving you money as your should invest around 50000 USD on tools designed to work with hard drive's with failures. In around 2 - 3 years you should be ready to recover the data.

Or you might want to send it to a pro to save you time and money and to save the data.

If hdd its knocking, could be MHA problems show u ATA registers BSY if no knocks, and reach DRDY DSC could be possible to get data back, using hardware control without did MHA swap , but only way its send to a Proof DR company

Ipanda - If you need this doing quickly, then phone a data recovery company. This is most likely not going to be a DIY job.

Your laptop was restarting a lot due to HDD failure. That may or may not have been triggered by thermal overload.

The drive was failing for a while and developed bad sectors, which is why your Boot Commander tools failed to copy data. As that tool is not designed for data recovery, your drive went from damaged to heavily damaged, likely in the system area. If the drive can't read SA, it won't initialize to be seen in BIOS.

While it was recognizable in BIOS, we could have done something for less. This will now cost you a lot of money to fix.

You will now need to come up with a 4-digit sum and find someone who has Hitachi-specific equipment. Put the drive on the shelf and it won't get worse. In the meantime, get a new drive and start rebuilding your life.
