Samsung Drive Firmware

How easy is it to re-write firmware modules in Samsung desktop and laptop drives? Also, how do you pick the correct drive family using the PC-3000 utility? :?:

This is the reason why I am asking. I am new at restoring firmware on harddrives, and to be successful, I have to ask questions. I am thankful for you help though.
