How to mark slow sectors as bad sectors

January 9th, 2009, 3:31

Well, I have a maxtor 320GB hdd and there are multiple sectors with access times > 500 which is terrible. I found these with HDDSCAN but I wonder if I can mark these as bad sectors so data won't be stored on these.any help would be appreciated :D

Try remap on. Try also erase function first. If doesn't work, the drive must be serviced. NOTE: DESTRUCTIVE PROCESS, YOU'LL LOSE DATA ON DRIVE.

Sorry, what's remap on or erase function? you mean in the HDDSCAN but there is no remap on :(
I'm confused. LOL

BlackST comments about using MHDD instead of using HDDScan, actually.

alright, thanks a lot.I did a little googling and I come up with this that remapping should happen automatically and drive should remap these with reserved space I check it again to see if the problem is actually resolved by itself :))

OK, the problem solved. just for the record if anyone is having this problem the following actions should be taken
1.download MHDD
2.boot system with the CD-ROM or floppy image of MHDD
3.select your hard drive
4.type scan
5.find those slow blocks with access times > 500 and make note of the range of them
6.type makebad
7.enter those ranges
Now you have converted those slow blocks to BAD BLOCKS
Thanks to cryoborgofthevenus and BlackST for their kind replys.
cheers :D

You have not solved the issue anyway. Likely the problem will appear again near the areas or on other. The unique definitive way is factory SS but is beyond end user.
