Apple drives compatability

January 12th, 2009, 6:29

Hi all

A quick question.

I have several hard drives from seagate in 2.5 and 3.5 inch that require donor boards and heads. these drives are specifically marked with an apple log on them.

Is it nescessary to match the donors with an exact drive with an apple log or wil the usual matching of firmware, sitecode model be sufficent.

thank you

What models are you specifically talking about? In my experience with seagates the drives do not need to be exaxctly identical. Just the same donor requirements as seagates without the apple logo.

Hi hddguy

thank you for the reply

there are 2 drives in particular

1 is 7200.7 ST3160023AS fw 5.06 site amk

other is monentus St 9100823A
fw 3.06

site amk

they both have apple logos printed on them

so i should be able to look for a donor where i match as per instructions on the site with fw and country and should be ok?

thank you

If you match FW and country on Momentus you should be OK, in my experience.

Agree. If you encounter major differencies or issues let us know. Interesting.

Just match the usual for either head swap or pcb and should work. the apple logo is only on there as they were bought by apple to use in new computers
