Some time ago we received some of these drives showing
the typical spin-up , spin-down phenomenon.

With the first of these drives we decided to check if the problem might rest with the PCB.

We took a perfectly good PCB from an identical drive and fitted it to the faulty drive.

Results :

New PCB fried - intense heat at some resistors - no spin.
If you allow the intense heat to continue for some time the components will fail completely and the drive will spin-up and down again.

Conclusions :

If you have a spin-up spin-down problem with the Maxtor 2B02H1 drive - a board replacement will not solve the problem.

Hopes this helps to save some PCB's.
