Help Rebuild a Raid 5 Software

February 15th, 2009, 19:26

Hi to all,

I am trying to rebuild a Raid 5 from windows 2000 server ( Software)
The disk where in dynamic disk and the client made the array 3 disk.
Everything was ok with the array.
One disk fail , and the client click on the disk and say´s that make again dynamic.
The other two disk appear not the correct size(80GB), but the full size off the array (160GB)

I try to Run R-studio and ZAR but can not rebuild the array.
Try the defaul Block size 64Kb.

Also edit sector 0 and 63 to see it but dont know whick sector the array start.

If anyone can help.

Thanks In Advance
ZeBong

Zebong ..

Dynamic RAID 5 drives are not the same kettle of fish as standard RAID. Each volume has a config sector (magic number = PRIVHEAD). The information within here will/may have been erased when customer decided to recreate a new dynamic drive set - overwriting the old values.

The data is most likely still there provided nothing terrible like installation of software etc has happened .. But you may need to consider sending it some where else if you are not sure of how to do this.

Thanks for the Reply,

I edit the sector 6 and is clean, in the disk. So i presume that the client dont have the Raid with software.

Wich software can i use to get this data back ? or i have to use the raid controller from this array ?

Thanks

Look at offsets: 0X0EE, 0x11E and 0X14E could this be the drive order ?

You say this is 'sector 6' (LBA 5?) then offset 0x0F0 becomes instersting .. 3A = 58 + 5 = ??

Hi ,

Thanks for the info.
Afther wall the raid was made by hardware not software, the client did not know this.
I have made this array and get the data back.
Thanks for the help.
