WD Marvell family manual start selftest
PCI3K or winhex hex mode
1:ID 2# offset=1d0 fourth byte "02" change to "01" (checksum writer)
2:ID 28# 00ffset =10 ninth byte "18 or 19 or 1?" change to "01" (checksum writer)
#02 mod is on/off for selftest
#28 mod is WD selftest table
*stop selftest please send "software reset" to hard disk

Just a question : have you always seen #28 OK or did you experience either broken SS test tables / mods (SS when started is not successful or exit with errs.) ? In that case (i.e. refurb) ?
