Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello..
I have a problem with laptop hard drive: Fujitsu MHV2080BH
Basically, drive spins up normally, heads trying to calibrate, but after a while drive just spins, and there is no further movement of heads.
Does anyone know if it is firmware issue and if it is how to fix it (I think that's the issue). Drive cannot be seen in BIOS?
Also.. how can I make the hard drive to be detected?
Any suggestions, how can I do it on PC3000? Also, what should I click, like step by step guide, just to check, and not to make it worse than is.
Thank you.

The first should be the proper diagnostic, check ATA registers, check if reach to readiness, and if its check the anwer to "ATA commands", did a surface scan if there are problems at ATA commands answer check SA structure, if u havee pc3k, u have the information to how to did, check u manuals, but please dont tried to "repair" if u doesnt know what are u doing , if u are not sure send to a proof DR company here are really experts near from u wich surely could help u

Thank you Beto..
I am not sure, and I wonder, is it possible to change PCB on Fujitsu?
I reckon it is not, as original one is unique.
What else can be done?

For me it's not the pcb. What pc3000 are you using?

No offense, but how are you using a PC3000 and not know how to use it?

Hi,
So far I had no chance to use PC3000 to fix firmware, apart from basic functions (cloning, heads map, etc.).
Firmware is a different story and to be honest, it is more difficult when you don't know how to fix it (even having such powerful tool, like PC3k).
So you think, changing PCB will not make any difference?
Thank you.

PCB is not unique as such, but very specific as far as ROM version goes.
If you suspect that the PCB is not the original, then it "could" be your problem.
If you have pukka PC3000, why not check with ACE support for help?

How long have you been doing data recovery? I find it hard to believe an individual would spend thousands on equipment but not learn how to use it, unless you are employed by a big company but havent been trained yet.

To work with that Fujitsu ?!?

Thank you guys.. .
Well, company I work for has a lab, and PC3k as well. The reason why I am sking you is because no one at the lab knows ho to deal with the hard drive. I worked for a small data recovery company before, but.. because of recession, company does not exist anymore.
Anyway, I used original PCB on a different drive (same model, and firmware), and worked - hard drive is detected, with full information on it. I wonder, why original PCB does not work on original drive? Maybe there is another issue, I do not know about? Maybe it is not a PCB? What could be wrong with the hard drive?

I vote for bad heads.

Hi,
But drive is not clicking.
I can hear heads are trying to calibrate, but after a few seconds, hard drive is just spinning.

corrupt rom?

With Fujitsu, heads (e.g. preamp) can be bad and there is no clicking.
