Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I am having a few issues with a Toshiba MK6034GAX 2.5" drive. I had a laptop which failed (power issue), I have rmoved the hard drive and bought a IDE to USB cable in an attempt to retrieve data from the drive. When I 1st connected the drive to my vista laptop I could see the files but could not accesss certain folders due to security. I disconnected the drive and tried on my XP PC but recieved the error "Drive not Formatted - do you wish to format?" I chose no and disconnected the drive. Now I cannot access on my PC or laptop and cannot get to the data.
I thought this was maybe a driver issue - when I install the drive I get the message TORHHB@ LK6024FAX has been installed?
Can anyone please help??
Thanks!

Wrong cabling / IDE to USB adapter, at present. Or drive badly failing.

try another cable then try a data recovery pro.

Sounds like a bad adaptor, or dodgy connection to the HDD's PCB.

Thanks folks,
I have just tried the cable on another drive and I can view all the data ok so I think that points at a damaged drive? Is there anyway to repair and retrieve the data without going to a specialist?
Thanks

You can or you can not see the data on your drive?

I can see data on another data using the same cable. When I try to use the drive that is damaged it now asks me if I would like to format it.

Most likely you have a partition problem, but could be more serious problem.
Try connecting your drive directly to your Motherboard.
