MHT2040AT

Hi all

i have the above drive with a dead pcb.

i have an identical donor that i can use and the drive powers up, becomes ready but wont id, i am suspecting this is the issue with rom.

the problem is that the old board is completely dead and even trying to read the rom in kernel mode will not work.

so i may have to resolder the rom chip to another board, it is a SMD with many legs.

Can anyone recommend another solution or is it going to be nescessary to swap the chip to the donor board.

thank you

AFAIK PCB from MHT doesn't contain any adaptives, and head map in module in SA so donor PCB should be compatible. Did you match the fw code on the label, eg 07C3-0022 ?

hi thx for reply

I matched the second part but not the first
I don't have a board where the first set from label also matches so will need to try and source different board
Failing locating an identical match what are the options left in such cases?
Rom swap which I'm confident to do or can rom be backed up from old board but as old board I'd dead I can't see me reading rom while chip attached to board

Thx
