160 GB Desktop Hard Disk is being detected as 40 MB

March 19th, 2009, 12:55

Hi,

I am having one 160 GB Seegate Harddisk. I dont have a Desktop and having a laptop. So I bought one USB Casing with the external power. When i connected it said, Hard Disk is not formatted. so I formatted the Hard Disk, I tried both FAT32 and NTFS, but after formatting I can see Disk space as 39.3 MB.

Will you people help me in detecting what could be the problem? Please see i dont have desktop to connect my Hard Drive to it.

Thanks for your time. Looking forward for the solution. :-)

Best solution is to:

Get a new drive.

Sounds like you may be just formatting a small utility partition on the drive instead of the entire drive. use disk management to do your formatting and to view the total capacity of the drive. If disk management is seeing the drive as only 40mb, then the drive probably really has a problem. HPA gone crazy or something.
