Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

A few years ago i bought a Maxtor Onetouch External Harddrive. The harddrive inside was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10. The onetouch has a option called Maxtor Drivelock. I loved that function, until the main controller of the external enclosure died..... So now i have a Seagate drive with a full lock on it and i can't reach the data anymore. Is there a possibility that i can remove this lock by my self? Is this the same lock as a ATA drivelock with password?

Try connecting the drive to PC and use MHDD. If it was ATA LOCKED and you know the password, with it you should unlock the drive.

It says in yellow letters: "Warning, this drive is locked by ata password". Unfortunately, i typed the password in i thought it was with the option 'unlock' and then '0', but it says fail. I have tried several passwords i know.

It has the maximum security.

You will need special tools to unlock this one.

Have you tried AFF Repair Station to see if your drive is supported?

I tried AFF but the software says it cannot remove passwords from Seagate drives with maximum ATA security. I will send the drive to pcimage, thanks.
