ExcelStor ESG280-001 With translator problem

April 14th, 2009, 8:22

Hello gurus,

I have this drive with translator problem.
As far as i know, none of the "usual" tools supports this model/family.

Somebody know about any solution for this drive?

(A simple hotswap is too bad for productive result.)

Thanks,
Janos

These are actually Hitachi Drives, well the ones I've come across anyway.

Just find out which series it really is, and use that tool, with manual entry to the utility.

Look at the PCB, that'll give you a good idea what family it is.

Hello,

Thanks for reply.
I have seen some Excelstor drives wich was a refurbished hitachi, but this is the original excelstore!
The PCB is L shaped, and a little more looks like to maxtor than hitachi. :(
(Based on the pcb design, and used chips, components...)

Thanks,
Janos

What a nasty drive.

Can you image the drive at all? And make a VT in DE?

Your family is clearly a Hitachi clone, it is ok.
But mine...... :(

This have translator problem.
I have got ABRT and IDNF on all sectors in all area. :(
But can init, shows the SN, and makes an "usually" retry noise when trying to read up the translator.

I have one J640 too, but this looks like really a hitachi clone.
But the ESG280 is differen family, and different architecture i am sure!
The J6x0 uses Hitachi based pcb, but the ESG is almost unique. :(
