Hi to all hddguru, again,

Is possible when a cliente open the disk and touch the heads with the finger when the heads are stuck, them do something in the RAMP that is make a SIGN in the disk att the beggining off the plate like the picture show:
For your experience can anoyne tell-me if can i change the heads or it will be a wast off time and heads too ?
Thanks

I don't think this is caused by a customer touching the heads; I have gotten a couple of these cases where the top head has magically loaded UNDER the ramp, and gotten stuck there causing platter damage on the very most outer edge as you can see in your picture.
In both of my cases this was not recoverable, but maybe someone else has had a breakthrough.

I have seen at least 6 of these in the last year where the heads are just not loading on the ramp correctly. I've only been able to recover 2 of them, the others were scored.

I guess it will be unrecoverable after this procedure

The drives I received seemed recoverable as well, but upon performing a head transplant the drive still would not identify.
The location of the scratch is under the ramp, where there is no data written to anyways. It is still worth a shot to replace heads, and see what happens, but so far I haven't seen good results working on these cases.

@russwinters
Had no joy because of head incompatibility or there was further damage NOT evident at first look (maybe SA or who knows... ) ?

It is tough to say; when those cases came in I did not have a micro-scope, but now I do. Maybe next time I will be able to see more damage to the platters. I have very good eyes, but even the best eyes cannot see all damage in these cases
