Samsung SP012C Sata

May 15th, 2009, 9:48

Hi All,
I have A Samsung SP012C Sata to recover (only data)
I purchase 2 same unit on Ebay, to be used as donor,
Issues (same as found in an other posts from user "Spildit") is:
"drive that cliks for 8 times and than it powers down (spindle stop)"

User "BlackST" mention for this type of problem:
99% heads, 1% SA.

Any additional suggestion before I go for repair?
I have some doubt about:
- swap plate or heads?
- PCB doens't look exactly same, some difference on power electronics
- motor seems to be same

I already try the PCB swap, but result it's same.
I didn't try any software for check.

Thanks in advance for help.
D.

Hi,

Have you a clean room to make the exchange? and tools for that ?

I can only say if you open it you'll destroy it AND PCB swap won't work. No software will revive it OR give you access to the disk or firmware. Advice : if you want to send it for recovery, don't open it or make attempts, or the charge will be definitely higher.

HI all,
"Grazie a tutti per le informazioni",
thanks to all for info,

OK, I will not go for Electonics swap
I would like to try the Mech adj. by myself (in clean room or similar of course)
I am aware that I can destroy anything, thanks for advise.
I read some articles, and several post on this site (very good) plus I watch
some Video on youtube about HDD repair, safe head removal, plate swap and so on.
but I didn't found anything specific for this type of HDD (Samsung SP)

I was wondering if there if is available any suggestion or tip specific for this HDD
regarding Head removal, cover removal and so on,
and/or if is better change the head or the plate.

Thanks
Ciao

The best I can do is to fix it and recover data, if and only if it is not already opened and if there's no physical damage that is beyond repair. Otherwise, do what you want but don't blame nobody but the people who gave "such good advice", instead, if something goes wrong. It is a matter of fact that the drive contanins no importand data , so, if you choose to do that way, good luck.

Thanks,
I will not blame nobody
probably,
since the good suggestion received, I will not do any repair.
