Hard disk seems dead

June 4th, 2009, 4:24

I have Western Digital 80 GB HD, the power connector on the motherboard got burned, which in turn knocked down my HD, i think.

Now when i connect it to a new system, it doesn't get recognized, and seems dead, no spinning noise.

What are my options here? How can i recover my data from it?

Model: WD800BB-00JHC0
DCM: HSBACTJCA

Hello,

Try to get a closest drive in time (mfg date) and closest on DCM and try to swap the pcb.
If you have a little fortune, your preamp still ok, and you will match the confirguration as well.

If the drive recognized in BIOS (and windows can see the data):
Read out everithing immediately without any write attempt, including automatic directory indexing cache or windows swaping into the drive, and than drop the drive away.

If not recognized by the BIOS (or windows can't see the data:
It is time to find a pro near you, sorry.
No other options are left.

Good luck
Janos

Hi imation3m,

DR "pros" make a lot of money out this common problem, the solution is very easy.
Even amateur can do this if careful.

Please NOTE : Problem usually from overvoltage or other electrical problem which
can cause fault inside hard drive - then solution is very difficult, not often though.

Solution : (You will need good soldering skills - hot air pencil quite useful)

Your circuit board has a large chip with a number like 88i6540-LFH1.
You must find a good working board with same number and same layout,
preferably from a WD800BB-00JHC0. Don't care about DCM Number.

You will find an 8pin chip at label U12 near connectors to motor.
You must take this 8 pin chip, remove it and replace on to the good
working circuit board and connect this to drive. That's it.
(NOTE - NB! 8 pin chip must be replaced in correct alignment)

NOTE : If fault has caused damage inside drive (HDA) then it is very difficult.

What do you mean by closest to DCM? what should i look for on the donor drive?

As he said, that the DCM code matches.
If the drive has an external flash (labelled U12 on the PCB) for adaptives, you would do good by swapping the chip from your drive to the donor PCB, as "derp" wrote. But when the fault is not restricted to the PCB, you're stuck - and have reached the point at which the pros come into play.
Who, actually, need to make some money from the simple and known problems in order to be able to research the more compliacted problems. I'm a DR newbie, but an electronics engineer for some time, and if I'd offer simple solutions at Chinese mass-market prices, I would not be able to make any serious development. Got it?

Hi Friend,
Derp is absolutily right if you want to repair your pcb but we replace the pcb after checking the exact Model no and DcM no and upto 90%cases we can get the data back.or if you dont find the same model no and DCM no or vice -versa than you have to repair/rectify the pcb to get your data back..
Thats my suggestion..
Thats for WD hdd as for WD hdd the DCM no is important with model no.

Yes ..
Plaease go ahead and purchase the exact model no with exact dcm no and you can get the data data back as per the first step.as per best of my data recovery experience (upto 90% cases).thats my heartly solution for you for WD HDD..
Also plase revert back if you dont find the solution..
