HITACHI/IBM - Head change

June 5th, 2009, 17:58

Hi to all,

I have received some Hitahi disk with head problem.

- Hitachi 60Gb . two heads - donors with the same MLC, when i change the heads the disk it click click don't have ID, but if i put the heads from the patient in the donor disk i can have ID, when SA Test it give error in all the copy1, so i think the head 1 from the patient is BAD, but why can i use the heads from the patient in the donor, and can not use the donor heads in the patient?
- when i put again the heads from donor in the donor disk it work and i can HAVE ID.

- Have also other 80Gb, 4 heads, that the head 2 get out off the head stack, also have the MLC match and other that dont match but the disk "click click click" do not have ID.

I have made somes hitachi disk just change the heads and matching the MLC + Model, but in this time i am not making it.

Is there any thing that i miss to do ?

Thanks for the help.

If you can place the donor heads back into the donor and they still work there is two scenarios:

Incompatible headstack or critical damage to the SA.

Check for damage. The scratch may be too small to see by eye, which is why it isn't killing heads (yet)
