What to use after recovery with WinHex

June 10th, 2009, 13:38

Hi I have a person who when compressing his email files the compression hung or he stopped it because it was taking too long. When going back into this Outlook Express he found a block of his messages missing and needs them back. Here is what I have done and can not go any further with this one due to problems reading the recovered .dbx files any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. Thank

1. cloned the disk. 2) used winhex to find all signature of the lost dbx files and retrieved and saved 3) used almost every email recovery program out there to try and open them up and read them and put them back into eml form so the can go back into outlook express 4) used different recovery program and found lots of email messages starting with the year 2004 to the beginning of 2009. In the months that I need from first of February 2009 to May of 2009 I can only retrieve 8 messages in this time frame. With winhex I have over 1000 recovered messages in .dbx form and can put them back to the folders of outlook express but when trying to read them or convert them to readable form I get an error message on every single one of them and they will not allow me to look at them or even read them. I have used one program and gotten the complete file folder of outlook express copied to disk and inside I can see a file there from a backup dbx he has done on the 6th of the month just before he had this problem the next day. I have restored this file and I can open it and get back into this file but when checking on dates my group of mail messges is not there. I also have found two in boxes for him on received items and can restore both of them and one is very old and will not work and the other reflects his in box as it stands and items missing. I have also scanned with different programs and found different results and have been able to retrieve other missing messages. Any suggestion please I need to find the rest of these accounts and restore them thanks very much for all in advance

Try running the EnCase. It will extract any files with the e-mail header and you can put all of them in a folder.
